Real Wedding – Jordan & Jack Coombs – 7th October 2023

Back in October we hosted the fabulous wedding or Jordan & Jack! Unfortunately, they didn’t get the best weather but Zoe their photographer managed to still get AMAZING photos!

If you want to hear Jordan & Jacks story, keep reading….

Firstly a little bit about you..

How did you two meet?

Online-in between the first and second of the many lockdowns of 2020

Where did you get engaged?

At home in our bedroom after going out for dinner that evening

Finding your venue and planning the wedding

What was it that first attracted you to Kinkell? Was there something that stood out when you knew it would be the perfect place for your special day?

We stayed in St Andrew’s in the summer of 2021, turns out just down the road from Kinkell, when we got engaged, we knew St Andrew’s was where we wanted our day. Jordan grew up in Fife and has family throughout the region. We came to see Kinkell after a few visits to other venues, we fell in love straight away walking through the door. Both of our mum’s were with us and were blown away how beautiful all of the lights were in the venue.

Sophie showed us around Kinkell and we knew it was the perfect venue for us.

Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding. Where did you start?

Once we had the venue booked, we used some of Kinkell’s recommendations when it came to suppliers. We found our photographer Zoe, we loved her more candid and natural style of photos, we also found Amy Annand, our florist, she was incredible at bringing together our ideas, we didn’t know much about the flowers we wanted but Amy delivered! We also found Gourlay our caterers through Kinkell. All of the recommendations were so helpful for us to book as we live in London, so long distance planning was a little more challenging.

How did you decide on a colour theme or style?

With the lights and layout of the venue, we knew we wanted to use stick to more rustic decor, lots of wedding podcast listening and TikTok watching helped to give us some ideas of what we wanted! Esty was my best friend throughout the wedding planning process, we DIY’d our signage, table plans and most of the decor on the day.

Is there anything you wish someone had told you about before about planning a barn wedding?

If you don’t like rustic weddings then it won’t be right for you, less is definitely more in a venue as beautiful as Kinkell, we didn’t want to go crazy and take away from the lights and natural beauty of the building.

Was there anything that was really important to you both to have?

We loved that Brian and the bar staff were able to provide cocktails in the evening-the espresso martinis were amazing!!

We were dead set on a live band and a piper-both of which were perfect in Kinkell, the dance floor is a really good size and meant everyone could get up and dance all night!

We also loved that we didn’t have any room turnaround as each section was for different parts of the day which was great!

The Big Day!

Tell us about your wedding day, what are your highlights and favourite memories?

It was the most incredible day-our celebrant performed such a personal ceremony for us, we wrote our own vows which turned out to be really fun! The band were absolutely brilliant, so pleased we went all out on the band and had the saxophone and a ceilidh set -turns out English guests are terrible at ceilidh dancing, but it was very funny! The late finish was also great, having the extra hour until 1am meant we felt like we had been dancing for hours!

It rained hard all day on our wedding day but it didn’t matter at all! The venue was cosy and no one seemed bothered by the rain.

We had such a fun day and just laughed all day, it all goes so quickly but it was the best day ever!

Have you any advice for other couples that are planning their wedding?

Don’t worry about the weather-you cannot control it, Kinkell is perfect if the weather isn’t on side! We still managed to get outside for some pictures even in the pouring rain!

Spend the money on things that are important to you, we spent more on the Band than originally planned but they were absolutely worth it!

Scotland benefits from being able to have a Celebrant perform your wedding legally, you can have lots of fun with this and make it really personal to you as a couple, everyone commented how much they loved the ceremony!

How is married life treating you?

So far so good! We just got back from our honeymoon in New Zealand which was amazing! We are loving being Mr & Mrs Coombs x
