Real Wedding – Kathryn & Ross McGowan – 27th June 2024

Kathryn and Ross’s wedding was a perfect blend of autumn vibes and summer warmth, with an unexpected twist on color palettes and décor. The couple chose rich, autumnal tones, bringing a cozy, seasonal feel to their sunny summer celebration. Guests were treated to plenty of fun, with games throughout and a unique signing barrel instead of the traditional guest book—such a memorable touch! Learn more about their day below..

Firstly a little bit about you..

Finding your venue and planning the wedding

What was it that first attracted you to Kinkell? Was there something that stood out when you knew it would be the perfect place for your special day?

Kathryn went to a wedding about 10 years ago at Kinkell Byre, I knew it was the place I wanted to get married, the views, the location, the DIY part & rustic feel, I was worried about convincing Ross but when we went to view, it didn’t take any convincing at all, Ross fell in love with it too, it was the only venue we went to view

Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding. Where did you start?

We went through the suppliers list on your website to start booking the main suppliers, then everything else fell into place, it was definitely not as stressful as we imagined it to be and really enjoyed the planning process

How did you decide on a colour theme or style?

We both love the autumnal colours (oranges, reds, yellows) but always wanted to get married in the summer so went for autumnal colours in the summertime, with a mix of sunflowers in the bouquet to bring in the summer

Where did you find your suppliers?

On the Kinkell website and at their Open Days

Is there anything you wish someone had told you about before about planning a barn wedding?

No, we knew what this was going to entail

Was there anything that was really important to you both to have?

The decor to be spot on, thanks to the amazing bee wild blooms, Amy was really wonderful

The Big Day!

Tell us about your wedding day, what are your highlights and favourite memories?

The best day for both of us! Highlights were the ceremony, the decor was spot on, it was so relaxed, and all of our guests commented on how laid back they felt & didn’t feel regimented like you would usually feel at a wedding.

Stewart the humanist was fantastic & made us all laugh & feel so at ease

Have you any advice for other couples that are planning their wedding?

Enjoy the process, try not to stress because it will all fall into place

How is married life treating you?

Very well, enjoying being a family of 4 (with odie the dog too) looking forward to our honeymoon to Mexico next year
