Real Wedding – Laura & Ross Watson – 10th October 2020

Our second micro wedding of 2020 was Laura & Ross. After originally postponing their wedding to February 2021 they realised all they wanted, was to be married. So they reverted back to their original date 10/10/20 (such a good date!) and got married alongside close family and friends.

I’ve never met a more lovely couple, they proved to us that having a wedding with 20 guests and restrictions does not make it any less beautiful. The way Stevie from i-Light utilised the space with the lighting fitted the amount of guests perfectly.

Laura & Ross have kindly shared their experience of the day

What first attracted you to Kinkell Byre? And what made you decide that it would be perfect for your special day?

The first venue we viewed was a hotel, and as lovely as it was, it made us realise that it wasn’t quite right for us and that we really wanted to find a space that we could put our own stamp on and make personal to us as a couple. With this in mind, google and word of mouth led us to Kinkell and we’re so glad we found it! As soon as we entered the Byre we knew it was the place we wanted to be married and spend our big day with our loved ones. We loved the flow through the different spaces inside, the stunning views outside and the fairy lights are magical.

Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding? What inspired you to pick all the things that you did and what was most important to you both?

We really wanted to create a relaxed, informal and fun day for our guests. With plenty of good food! One of the first things we booked was our caterer, Lazy Sunday. From our first email with Carole we knew we wanted them to cater for us and it was definitely the right decision.

Another important detail for me was the flowers. I absolutely love flowers and fell in love with Blue Poppy’s style at one of the open days at Kinkell. We were delighted with what she was able to create for us.

Of course, the most important thing for us both was that we could be married, and start our next chapter, and we were very lucky that we could alter our original plans thanks to Kinkell and our wonderful suppliers.

What did you both enjoy planning?

I enjoyed planning most aspects of the wedding, but I have a tendency to get a little bit carried away when I see pretty things! Ross is much more sensible so he reigned me in. One of the things that Ross organised was a magician which he was excited about, but unfortunately we were unable to have due to restrictions.

Tell us about your day?

Our day was perfect. After initially postponing, we decided to revert to our original date with 5 weeks to go as we just wanted to be married.

Despite the stresses and heartache that came with drastically reducing the number of loved ones we could have with us, we wouldn’t change it.

We got the relaxed and informal day that we wanted and because of the reduced number of guests we were able to spend time with everyone and sit back and enjoy and appreciate our day.

What made it so special?

The staff at Kinkell and all of our suppliers went above and beyond to accommodate us at a time that was and is incredibly difficult for the wedding industry. We will be forever grateful for this level of care and service.

What advice do you have for other couples planning their wedding?

Try to enjoy it! I know it is very difficult right now to make plans, but better days are ahead and you will have the most amazing day as you will get to celebrate your love for each other.

How is married life treating you?

We have settled well into married life, and are delighted to be expecting our first baby in the summer!

A massive congratulations to Laura & Ross for their new addition making an appearance in July 2021!
