Real Wedding – Lindsey & Mark MacEachen – 14th September 2024
We celebrated this gorgeous couple’s wedding back in September and what a day it was! They really made the byre their own with Lindsey’s mother doing all the flowers and decor, handy having a florist in the family!
You can read a bit more about their story, how they came to book Kinkell and their favourite parts of the day!
Firstly a little bit about you..
How did you two meet?
We met on Plenty of Fish in 2018!
Where did you get engaged?
We got engaged in Barbados! We had planned to go on this holiday 2 years before, but it was delayed because of Covid, so by the time it came around, it was perfect timing! We went for a walk along the beach at sunset and sat on some rocks (turned out to be very sharp rocks!!) and Mark popped the question!
Finding your venue and planning the wedding
What was it that first attracted you to Kinkell? Was there something that stood out when you knew it would be the perfect place for your special day?
I had followed Kinkell for quite a while on Instagram as I randomly came across the page one day and it was like no venue I had ever seen! When we got engaged, I showed Mark the page and he loved the vibe of it as well. We booked a viewing and as soon as we both walked in we knew it was the venue for us! We viewed another couple of venues to be sure, but nothing compared!
The space is great because you can have everything under the one roof so there is no need to shuffle rooms around and have guest wait in holding areas whilst tables are rearranged etc – this was a big plus! The sea view from the front was also a big plus and the gardens to the back meant that we had plenty of great places for pictures without having to go anywhere else.
Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding. Where did you start?
Once we had the venue secured I started to look into other key suppliers that I knew would book out in advance. Two key things for us was to have great food & also a great band! So, this was next on the list and we booked a tasting session at Regis Banqueting which was amazing and we got them booked up. We also wanted a band with something a bit different so we booked The Stereo Beats as they had a sax player! My mum is a florist so from the moment we picked the venue, I started putting together pinterest boards to share with her and she got to work over the next 2 years doing little bits here and there to bring the vision to life! It looked amazing!
How did you decide on a colour theme or style?
As Kinkell has that rustic feel, and as we were getting married in September as the season is starting to change, we wanted to go for colours that we felt complimented the overall rustic vibe. We went for dark burgundy bridesmaid dresses and then throughout the venue we had sage greens, dusky pinks & some burgundy flowers to tie in the dresses.
Where did you find your suppliers?
I joined a page on Facebook called Blushing Brides which was really useful for supplier recommendations. It gave me a good place to start when I had no idea where to begin looking!
Is there anything you wish someone had told you about before about planning a barn wedding?
I love planning and I enjoyed the process of being involved in every detail. Even on our set up day, I enjoyed being there to make sure everything was as I had imagined. It can probably be overwhelming as there’s probably more to it than you think but its 100% worth it!
Was there anything that was really important to you both to have?
We just wanted our family and friends to have the best time!
The Big Day!
Tell us about your wedding day, what are your highlights and favourite memories?
One of our favourite memories is when Mark & I were sat at our sweetheart table for dinner, just the two of us. We decided to do this because we thought this would be a great chance for us to have time for just the two of us to catch up and take in the moment together. I would highly recommend as it was one of the highlights for us both!
One of the other highlights that we both laugh about when we talk about the day, is the evening when the band came back on for their second half. We had bought big foam glow sticks and we had Claire hand these out when the band came back on. This changed the vibe completely – who knew foam glow sticks would go down so well. We have memories and pictures of mums/dads/bosses/friends dancing with their glow sticks in the air – it was great!
Have you any advice for other couples that are planning their wedding?
Do your research into suppliers and get the ones you want booked in early! Starting the planning early allows you to enjoy the process! Ask your close friends and family for advice and involve them in the planning as it makes it more exciting to share your ideas.
Also Claire and Sophie were super helpful with any questions! They know what they are doing inside out, so if you are stuck just drop them a message! Some questions you have might seem silly but they will know the answer!
How is married life treating you?
We love it! We wish we could go back and relive the day again, but we are looking forward to our honeymoon early next year! 😊
