Real Wedding – Ross & Caitlin Munro – 21st July 2022
We had the absolute pleasure of hosting this stunning couples wedding on a Thursday in July! They really personalised the byre to make it their own, with the Father of the Bride designing all the wooden signage such as a crisp wall, running order and polaroid photo board! The gorgeous pair have kindly written about some of their favourite moments of their day and the lead up to it!
How did you guys meet?
A wintery first date in Edinburgh following a match on a dating app. We spent the day at the Christmas markets before heading to the Edinburgh Dungeons where Ross pretended he wasn’t scared!
What first attracted you to Kinkell Byre?
St Andrews has always been a special place for us both. Ross is a keen golfer and knew of the Byre from passing it previously. Caitlin fell in love with the Byre straight away and we both loved the idea of being able to put our own personal touches to it.
And what made you decide that it would be perfect for your special day?
The warm welcome provided by Sandy and Sophie made us feel at ease immediately. When we saw the space for the first time we could easily imagine what we wanted to do with it, and that was when we knew it was perfect for us.
Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding? What inspired you to pick all the things that you did and what was most important to you both?
Planning the wedding seemed daunting at first, but with Ross’ organisational skills the spreadsheets made everything easier. We knew we both loved a rustic wedding style, and this was easy to create within the barn. Our florist Amy helped us keep the décor natural, with plenty of greenery and neutral-coloured flowers. We were able to keep our wedding very personal by having my dad build some of the various decorative pieces, which was incredibly important for us both.
What did you both enjoy planning?
We both really enjoyed being able to take control of every aspect of our day. The barn is such a blank canvas it allowed us to do as little or as much as we wanted with each space. We particularly enjoyed the wedding menu tastings with Delicious Catering, and had great fun deciding on the playlists for each part of the day.
Tell us about your day?
As cliché as it may sound, our wedding day was definitely the best day of our lives. Everything went exactly as planned and everyone at Kinkell Byre ensured the day went smoothly. We were so lucky to spend the day with our close family and friends, and the dancefloor was full all night. Stevie even allowed us to have a private final dance once all of the guests had left, which we are really grateful for.
What made it so special?
The fact that our wedding day was so unique to us, and had so many personal touches which represent us both, made it feel really special. All of our guests have commented on how stunning the byre was, and how well it suited our personalities, which makes us incredibly happy as this is what we had hoped for.
What was your favourite part of the day?
It was a fantastic day spent with all of our family and friends, but we were lucky to have some time spent alone with each other throughout the day as well. These moments allowed us to reflect on how special these moments were, and were definitely our favourite part.
What advice do you have for other couples planning their wedding?
Both having a hands-on role in the wedding planning is essential. Use each other’s strengths and don’t be afraid to send multiple emails to suppliers asking lots of questions! Our suppliers were all super helpful and we couldn’t have done it without them. Most of all, don’t try and do everything all at once. Be patient and take your time when making decisions as this will make your day everything you would want and more.
