Real Wedding – Sarah & Callum Winn – 12th September 2024

Sarah and Callum tied the knot back on a sunny Thursday in September! They filled the barn with their own decor and even had some local suppliers from their area play at the wedding! Hear a bit more about how they met and why they chose Kinkell Byre for their dream day!

Firstly a little bit about you..

How did you two meet?

Brannies night club through mutual friends.

Where did you get engaged?

Finding your venue and planning the wedding

What was it that first attracted you to Kinkell? Was there something that  stood out when you knew it would be the perfect place for your special day?

After viewing similar venue styles, we loved that Kinkell had limited windows  allowing for a romantic mood lighting. The venue allowed for so much creativity and the space was beautiful. The views across the water were absolutely breathtaking, we wanted somewhere that allowed the guests to be outside during cocktail hour which Kinkell provided with the bonus of the views.

Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding. Where did you start?

Pinterest and Social Media was where my planning started, I was determined to DIY as much as I could to allow us to spend money on other things. I started by sitting down with Callum and creating a guest list, this then allowed me to plan table sizes and shapes. Then we went onto looking into suppliers and booking a photographer, videographer and caterer. I created our seating chart display, table centre pieces, welcome sign and decorations throughout the venue as well as all of our invites (with a little help from family and friends along the way).

How did you decide on a colour theme or style?

Our colour theme was a complete accident, I was set on a green colour until we had our bridesmaid ‘try on’ day. The company we bought our dresses from allowed you to rent dresses for up to 7 days for a small fee, we were focusing  on style over colour as they only had 1 size in each colour. This meant I had to order random colours to try the styles/shape in the girl’s sizes. When the  dresses arrived there was the colour Cabernet in amongst the dresses, we all  looked at each other and thought wow that is a beautiful colour. That was the  moment our colour theme was picked!

Where did you find your suppliers?

Our wonderful photographer, videographer and florist had previously done a  few of our friend’s wedding and we loved the results from those. Our caterer was a family friend, our band and DJ are local to our area so we had heard them previously and had made wonderful memories over the years on nights out when they were playing. Joe Yates the singer during cocktail hour was at a party we were at and we went home that night and said to each other how  amazing would he be singing during the day, so we booked him.

WhatHannahDoes is a live drawer we came across on TikTok and she was wonderful.

Is there anything you wish someone had told you about before about planning  a barn wedding?

Take photos of the entire venue when you visit so you know exactly what the  venue looks like when trying to plan where you are going to place things. I  kept having to go off memory when trying to think of where to put my  decorations or try and look on Instagram at Kinkells posts to see things.

There were a few times I thought I could put something somewhere then realised it was either too small a space or too big .

Was there anything that was really important to you both to have?

A venue that was natural, beautiful and private.

The Big Day!

Tell us about your wedding day, what are your highlights and favourite  memories?

Our day was magical it is so difficult to pick a favourite memory, it went by so  fast and I can’t believe it is over. Our best memories from the day have to be our caterer having to carry our children down the aisle because they refused to walk, the photos are so funny! The views on the day made it so beautiful especially the sunset.

The men all did a fantastic job at their speeches! There were tears, laughter and joy all around.

Finally seeing everyone having such a good time made all our hard work for the day worth it.

Have you any advice for other couples that are planning their wedding?

Create a QR code for your invites linking it to the app WithJoy for creating  your wedding website this means all your guests menu choices and RSVP’s are on the one app, easy to send and forward to the caterers and you don’t have 100 texts or letters coming to you to get lost.

How is married life treating you?

Married life is great. We all finally have the same name and feel like a  complete family.
