Real Wedding – Abigail & Jonathan Chatterjee – 26th May 2022
Abigail & Jonathan, both former St Andrews University Students, had their fair share of student nights at Kinkell and decided to return to get married here! They have kindly shared parts of their day and some advice for new couples!
How did you guys meet?
We met as students at University of St Andrews – we were good friends for a while before we started dating, our first date was a walk along the fife coastal path (past Kinkell)!
What first attracted you to Kinkell Byre? And what made you decide that it would be perfect for your special day?
We had been to university events there before and were blown away by how beautiful, timeless and adaptable the venue was. It’s location (close to St Andrews and the coastal path) made it a meaningful place for us as a couple, and when we came to look at it a few years later as a potential wedding venue it was even better than we remembered, setting the bar so high that nowhere else could compare!
Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding?
Although little details could be stressful (guest list and seating plan, concerns about covid etc), the staff at Kinkell Byre were incredibly helpful and really great at coordinating with suppliers, so it all felt like it was coming together pretty quickly.
What did you both enjoy planning?
We loved sending out our invitations, we were so excited for everyone to be there. And we really enjoyed choosing the menu!
Tell us about your day?
It was just such a dream day, we wouldn’t have changed a thing; Kinkell Byre was dazzling, everything ran smoothly and we didn’t need to worry about a thing, we were able just to relax and celebrate the day, it was really joyful.
What made it so special?
Having all of our friends and family in one (incredible!) place and just feeling really overwhelmed with goodwill and support.
What was your favourite part of the day?
The ceremony and the ceilidh – the church service was really touching and the ceilidh space and band were great for dancing, and everyone seemed to have fun.
What advice do you have for other couples planning their wedding?
Take your time, start early and savour the little details!
How is married life treating you?
Really well – it’s been great just settling down together – we’re now based in Edinburgh, so not too far from St Andrews!
