Real Wedding – Genna & Raphael Selby – 2nd July 2023

We hosted this gorgeous couples traditional Jewish wedding back in July and what a day it was! The day was full of tradition and absolute joy, the byre was transformed by the couple and their suppliers! They have shared parts about their day and how they made all their wedding decisions!

Firstly a little bit about you..

How did you two meet?

We have known each other a long time, because Raphael is Genna’s little brother’s best friend from childhood! However, we ‘re-met’ in adulthood in December 2018 and started dating, and haven’t looked back since.

Where did you get engaged?

The shores of Loch Lubnaig, on 30/12/21

Finding your venue and planning the wedding

What was it that first attracted you to Kinkell? Was there something that stood out when you knew it would be the perfect place for your special day?

Firstly how beautiful it was without even requiring any decoration! Next, the size of the venue and the fact that there was different spaces for each segment of the day. Third, the reliability and professionalism of all of the staff (Claire and Stevie especially!). Lastly, the fact that it was a DIY venue, so we could bring all of our own suppliers and put our own special touches on it.

Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding. Where did you start?

We started with finding the venue we wanted, and the rest flowed from there. We came to the Kinkell open day and found Fiftysix events and Christian Olliver, and shortly afterwards we booked our caterers too. It was quite a smooth process!

How did you decide on a colour theme or style?

It started with initial discussions with the florist (we knew we wanted to use dried flowers with some neutral tones!) and we took it from there.

Where did you find your suppliers?

A mixture of the Kinkell open days, our own research, and our trusted suppliers recommending other suppliers!

Is there anything you wish someone had told you about before about planning a barn wedding?

No – the Kinkell staff were pretty thorough!

Was there anything that was really important to you both to have?

Music was a huge part of our day, so we spent a lot of time planning the different elements of the music and entertainment we had during the day.

The Big Day!

Tell us about your wedding day, what are your highlights and favourite memories?

The ceremony was very special for us (we had a traditional Jewish ceremony), our first dance, and giving out joint speech!

Have you any advice for other couples that are planning their wedding?

Enjoy the process! 95% of it is the planning, and the day goes by in a flash, so make sure you enjoy it from start to finish.

How is married life treating you?

So far, so good 😊. We’ve loved receiving messages from family and friend telling us how much they enjoyed the day. Receiving the photos and videos from the photographer and videographer has also allowed us to relive the most magical parts!
