Real Wedding – Kirsty & Gregor Smith – 2nd June 2022

We had our very own Open Championship during this couples wedding here at Kinkell! They got married in a beautiful ceremony at St Salvators which mean’t the ceremony space at Kinkell was free to decorate, so they filled it with a 9 hole golf course from Go2Events! If you want to find out a bit more about Kirsty & Gregor’s day, keep reading!

How did you guys meet?

We both went to university in St Andrews, but we actually met in Dundee on a football social at Fat Sam’s nightclub!

What first attracted you to Kinkell Byre?

We had both attended events here whilst at university with many special memories, so it was already at the top of our list.

What made you decide that it would be perfect for your special day?

The views, the space and the opportunity to turn a blank canvas into something perfect for us.

Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding? What inspired you to pick all the things that you did and what was most important to you both?

The recommendations of suppliers from Kinkell were a great starting point. It was important to us that all of our guests had lots of fun. We stacked our day with lots of food, drinks and games! We wanted to make use of the full space that Kinkell offers, we made sure we filled every nook and cranny with something special, even a 9-hole crazy golf course in the ceremony room!

What did you both enjoy planning?

We loved planning our table names, we decided to tell the journey of our relationship and every table was named after a place special to both of us. We brought this to life by mapping out our journey with photos and stories on a board for all to enjoy.

Tell us about your day?

Magical. From a beautiful ceremony in St Salvator’s chapel, photos on the Swilcan Bridge, drinks and games in Kinkell orchard, being piped into our wedding breakfast, to dancing the night away to classics and ceilidh. It was truly a special day that we will never forget.

What made it so special?

Being back in St Andrews where we started our journey, this time with all of our friends and family from all over the world in such a special venue.

What was your favourite part of the day?

It would have to be when we were piped into Kinkell Byre to a confetti shower seeing all our guests having such a good time.

What advice do you have for other couples planning their wedding?

Don’t underestimate the amount of planning, start early, make lists, accept support and focus on the things that really matter to you.

How is married life treating you?

It has been amazing going back over our wedding day, enjoying photos, videos and stories. We are lucky enough to still have our honeymoon to look forward to later in the year.
