Real Wedding – Laura & Scott Howie – 5th March 2022

Laura & Scott got married at Kinkell back in March and opted for our co-ordinated wedding package! This means the team at Kinkell planned their big day for them, from proposals, to meetings and budgets then down to co-ordinating on the day. As they had Lily at the time and two full time jobs, they felt this was the best thing for them! Read a little bit about their day and why they chose the wedding package

How did you guys meet?

We’ve been close friends since we were 12. Not enough paper on the page to tell the story of how we ended up where we are today!

What first attracted you to Kinkell Byre? And what made you decide that it would be perfect for your special day?

We were pretty sure that Kinkell Byre was the venue for us straight after viewing it. We didn’t have a particular list of things we needed in a venue and are both the type of people who make decisions based on gut feeling vs whether something does or does not tick a box. For us, Kinkell Byre was the second venue that we viewed, and we knew in the car home that there was no point in viewing anything else. It is so gorgeous, the staff are amazing, and we are so sure we made the right choice! The flexibility that it offers in terms of décor, catering, layout, music….everything, is such a selling point too!

Tell us a little bit about planning your wedding? You went for the Kinkell Co-ordinated Wedding Package, did you find this easier when planning your wedding?

The Co-ordinated Wedding Package worked really well for us. We both have demanding full time jobs and a daughter, and didn’t want what little time we have just the two of us to be consumed by wedding planning. The package meant that we could spend our energy on the parts of wedding planning that we do love, like tasting the food and choosing the music and writing personal notes to each of our guests. We found real value in the time that it saved us.

What did you both enjoy planning?

Making a playlist to play during the meal was by far the best part of planning. We spent a good few nights with a good bottle of wine choosing songs that we love and included old tunes that we’ve grown up listening to as well as some more modern music. We still listen to the playlist now!

Tell us about your day?

Our day was amazing, we would just describe it as great fun. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and I think the day reflected that, plenty food, plenty wine and lots of laughs! What was really special for us is that because we have known each other for so long, our guests on both sides know each other really well. As it was one of the first post covid Weddings with pretty much no restrictions it sort of doubled as a massive reunion with lots of people we hadn’t been able to socialise with for some time.

What was your favourite part of the day?

It’s hard to choose just one. A funny memory is that we had written vows to our daughter who was 2 at the time, really honest words that we put a lot of thought into. When the time came for the celebrant to read them to her….she had fallen asleep in one of the bridsmaids arms!!

The Father of the Bride speech. My Dad had saved things like letters to the tooth fairy, letters to Santa etc from when I was young and read them out as part of his speech. We had no idea he still had those things and it was really special to me that he’d kept them and a great surprise.

A number of people travelled from all over the UK and 9 people from as far as America which just means the world to us.

What advice do you have for other couples planning their wedding?

Try not to take it so seriously, of course it is important, but it is also just one day so try to enjoy the process and more importantly the day. Your unlikely to have the same group of people in the room with you again so take it all in.

Decide together in the beginning what your top priorities are and put the most energy into those, everything else will fall into place.

No one knows what was planned except for the two of you so if something does go wrnog, roll with the punches.

How is married life treating you?

Married life so far has been crazier and a little bit busier than we’d ideally like but we’ve been so lucky to spend most of 2022 celebrating special occasions with family and friends that were postponed due to the pendemic. Even although we got married in March, we really haven’t had time to sit down and truly reflect on it. We are planning a one year anniversary weekend away together so we’ll be able to focus on appreciating how lucky we have been to have such a great wedding with amazing guests
